hey all, i know that there have already been ?'s on this topic but i cant seem to find em'

i purchased a beautiful sun coral yesterday and i am wondering how long i have to wait to enjoy him.... i have placed mysis on and near him, and nothing. i guess my ? is this.... how long should i wait before i can tell if it is happy or not. all night last night, he did not open and even today.... nothing. am i being impatient, or does this beautiful coral take longer than my others to truely acclimate.

also, i have read online that the light issue is not that big of a deal... i know that they prefer the caves but i do not have the strongest of lights, 2 pc's at 96 watts over a 60 gal. tank. he is at the bottom of the tank is this o.k. for him to be out in plain sight??

oh.... i forgot to through this in... i purchased the suncoral from a LFS that had it in there for about a week, in that week, i had checked it out a few times and never saw it open, should i have not purchased it without seeing it fully in bloom?

They usually only open at night so doubt it would be open at the LFS.
I had one as a hitchiker once on a shroom rock and after it got used to my light timers it would open when my lights went to actinic so thats when I would feed. You can also train them supposedly to open during the day.

Being you just got it I wouldnt worry to much yet about it opening. I had a finicky dendro that didnt open right away until it got used to the tank.
Try checking several hours after the lights go off.

Im sure it would be ok at the bottom of the tank but if you could put it under a ledge it might want to open more when the lights are on.

You can prolly read more in the nonphotosynthetic forum.

I had a large colony that I recently fragged, the I had trained to open at six pm, which is four hours before my 150w MH go out. I have no Aktiniks, and also I have mine right out in the open. They are doing great. Its a slow process to get them to that point however. All the frags that I have given away also are doing well under full light. Maybe it is an adaptation. I would love to hear if anyone ells has any success with bright light, and sun corals.

THANKS!!!! i am very proud to say that my sun is doing good...
at first i was not to sure if i should have gotten it, but today is day four and it is opening up (finally) to eat!!!

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW... this is truely one of the most beautiful pieces in my tank.. thank you for the threads, and no, i did not put it in a cave. it is in the light and now opens around 4 in the afternoon. cant wait to see this one grow!!
