sun coral advice please

Pretty much... they don't get any energy from the sun (ironically) so there is no reason for them to be open unless there is food in the water. Since we are in the non-photo forum I will say many of us are able to keep our sun corals at least partially open most of the day just because we always have some amount of food in the water, dead or live.

First statement completely true. But you can try to change your feeding times slowly to were you start feeding the same time every day while the lights are on. I have seen these corals in many tanks completely open during day light hrs. Not sure though if these are staying open all day but if you want them to open while lights are on, you can get this to happen. You just gotta be patient and try to feed generally around the same time everyday and they will get used to opening around that time.:spin1:

Yeah, I switched to feeding around noon and they stay open for a few hours.

However, When I first got it, I was feeding it everyday and it was spreading. Then after talking to some people here I stopped and only fed twice/week. After 2 weeks I've noticed some dye off. Should I go back to daily feeding or every other day???

I would. Mine seem to do better with almost daily feedings of small meals. I feed them at different times of the day. They rarely close up now. They aren't as fully open in the day as at night but they stay open.

If you're noticing recession then it's either being attacked by something or it's not receiving enough nutrition (food). I feed them very heavily on a daily basis for the first couple months.
