how often do yall feed? what do yall feed?

is nutramar ova mixed with mysis and brine shrimp okay? plus i dose reef energy a and b

Best way to feed is to cut a plastic soda bottle in have and insert food through the cap end after placing the bottle over the sun coral. This stops the food from getting all over your tank and from fish stealing it. Try different foods like frozen brine and Mysis or cyclopeeze.

how would you get food to each polyp? stir the bottle alittle and let it float? or is just the blended part enough if its in the water inside the bottle?

You gently squeeze the thawed mixture into and all around the coral with a turkey bastor or sea squirt from Kent even a medicine dropper will work.

but would it reach each polyp? i have a turkey baster, so just gently squeeze into the cap end and let it fall?

I use brine shrimp. I turn off all the pumps and feed the polyps individually with a transfer pipette. You'll get best overall polyp extension if they are placed in a high flow area

i pointed the 850 straight at it, it doesnt seem to extend during the day unless i feed.

I don't think they should be in really high direct laminar flow though.

You need to train them to extend during the day.

Hi! I aquired my first tubastrea yesterday.

I've had mine opening up the mouths really wide about 5 hours after I fed it. Is this normal? I could still see mysis inside the mouth, about five hours later they were closed again.

Yes, it is normal. Mine opens almost constantly and is easily overfed. It was my first coral, and I was so determined to make sure it got enough to eat that I gave in to every request for food during the few several months, no matter how stuffed it already looked. It always shocked me how much food it could eat, but it wasn't long before I noticed it puking up the excess during the night, so I cut back. Mine eats mysis, cyclopeeze, fish eggs, NLS pellets, basically anything I toss into its mouth. It has an insatiable appetite and would probably eat toilet paper if I tried, although I have no reason to and do not recommend that. :lol2:

It might sound ridiculous to many, but I used to pick it up and raise it near the top of the tank (still underwater), so I could feed every mouth by hand. That got pretty tiring, so I switched to feeding with a pipette inside the tank. I never really got the hang of the soda bottle method, easy as it looks. If you have fish that will steal the food, it is more important, but I never had that problem.

im trying to feed it tommorrow before i leave, because the mouth hasnt really been open the last 2 days, im leaving for a week so hopefully they do well :(

If you have a eyedropper or a transfer pipette, I've found that they work much better than turkey basters because you can actually place the food on the polyps

How long will this coral live if you keep up the feedings, I heard that you are lucky to keep one alive for a year is good. True or false?

FALSE

This coral will easily live for several years if well fed. If well fed they will also grow new heads relatively quickly.

I have a frag that has tripled in size in 2 years

Never aim powerheads directly at corals. Sure fire way to keep them closed all the time or worse, cause tissue recession.

For feeding, I feed my large polyped NPS corals with tweezers one polyp at a time, about 2-3x per week. Of course they also get feed when I feed the fish.
