Any one ever have any luck with these? I dont even know if there considerd sps or lps. Are they a real pain to keep?

Welcome to the sun polyps group, they are not that hard once you get them to eat for the first time. Sun Polyps

I fed mine about every day to every other day to get it to open. Tonight is the first time it ever opened this much! Now I plan on feeding it every 3 days or so. I recommend feeding at night when most of the inhabitants are asleep. This makes things much easier. Also, turning all the pumps off helps. You will need a low light area, preferablly a cave, to keep one.

About a month. They started eating after about 3-4 days, then ate every day i feed em'. They would open slightly, but never fully. Then, tonight, they finally opened! At first I was feeding them during the day in hopes it would open with the lights on, but had no success (even though it is in a cave). Then i switched to feeding at night and presto, they opened!

Kool, Congratulations. I had mine about a wweek and today was the first time they ate. Today must be Sun coral day. I fed mine earlier today, hopefully mine get use to eating before I leave to work.

You can see pics of mine in the swf thread, cant get them to load here???
You definitely dont need to put them in low loght. They will flourish under any light even mh's as long as they are fed. It is actually best to keep them in the open so that they can be properly fed. The best way is the cup method. Take a small tupperware bowl, drill a hole in the top and each side. Put it over the sun and squirt the food in with a syringe. This way you can feed as much as you want, your skimmer and tank wonty go nuts and no other inhabitants can eat the food. I feed mine every other day now. Frozen cyclopeeze soaked in selcon and zoecon and every 3rd feeding a cube of frozen mysis and a cube of krill soaked in zoe and selcon.
Mine has done great and the polpys have grown to nearly double the size. My polyps stay open now from about 6p.m. to 7a.m.
Good luck, they are an amazing coral.

I tried the cup method, but couldn't find a big enough container around the house. I understand that they will live under intense lighting, but I had it in a cave in hopes that it would fully open during the day.

Whiteshark, in my experience, time of day is irrelevant. They can be "trained" to open wheven you want based on the feeding schedule. Mine only opened at night because that was when i fed it. I fed it at night since that was what i read to do. Talking to others who had success they told me about the training. Over the last few months i have moved up its feeding time from like 10p.m. to 5p.m. gradually. Now it starts opening right around five when i put a few drops of selcon in the tank. Its usually fully open by 6p.m. and stays that way till morning.
Its much better this way since you can actually get some enjoyment out of it rather than staying up all night to see it open.
p.s.- whiteshark, if you go to target or if you have a super target, they have a ton of different sized containers. Mine was 3 for literally like $2.99 and is about 4"x4"x4".

2 things. One, I actually enjoy watching the tank when the lights are off as much, if not more so than when the lights are on (all lights are off by 6 pm). 2 I litterally can't even put a pipette in the water when all the critters are out. The hippo tang grabs at it, and has pulled it out of my hand on occasion. My big mouthed six spot goby grabs the end of the pipette and waits for me to squirt mysis right down his throat. And don't even get me started on the cleaner shrimp... I like seeing it under the moon lights as much as under the MHs. I do know, however, and have read, that they can be trained to open during the day. I figure, its happy now, and i'm happy, so why change it?

Its funny you say that. My fish are becoming VERY aggressive when i put in the syringe to start feeding. I started giving them a little from the syringe and they are getting greedy!! Yesterday my convict blenny(luckily still small) bit my finger while i was squirting the food in the bowl. And i mean he grabbed a little bit of finger, held on and SHOOK! No little nip, he wanted a piece! Hes lucky hes so cute
