Amy, wait until others chime in but this is my thinking...
The frogspawn should retract when taking it out of the water. It will produce slimy mucous that will cover the flesh that will help retain the moisture while out of the water. The inside of frogspawns look like a hollow skeleton structure. As long as its at least an inch or two from the "flesh" you should have a healthy corals. Also, try to break them cleanly. You can score it with an xacto knife and snap it. A dremel works really well with this kind of fragging.
I'm not sure on the sun polyps...I would think I would use my tile/wet saw for it to be able to cut though/deeply scoring the rock. If you don't have one maybe score it all the way around and then use a chisel and hammer? I wonder what the correct way of doing this is..lol
