Supporting Floor

I supported the floor in the basement by doubling up 2x6's, running them across the floor joists and using 3 adjustable floor supports for the 210 gal. tank. This support was under the front edge of the tank.

We tore that 210 down and i'm setting up a 36x36x25 tank, where the 210 was, but wondering if you think I should move the supports out 12" to the front of the tank, or if that is not necessary?

What do you think?

I wouldn't think it would be necessary to move the lolly columns out a foot. I think what we are after here is preventing the clear span from being too long to handle the weight on top of it.

I just got finished with the same project yesterday morning. My 190 (60x24x30) is going to rest over 4 2x10's which I doubled up. One side of the double 2x10's was already supported by a triple 2x10 beam running down the center of the house. The joists had a clear span of about 16' so I added a double 2x10 after 2' which is supported by 4 telescoping posts which each support 3 tons. I'll let you know if the tank crashes through the floor but I think I'll be fine. Massive overkill only ran me $80 so I don't mind.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well.

One more question, do you think I should move the 2 supports that won't be directly under the tank, in so they are? As it is now, the middle support will be the only one directly under the tank.

I guess if it was me I'd move them inward so that they are under the front corners of the tank. I wouldn't trust the subfloor to transfer the load out to the joists they support. Will they be much trouble to move?

No, won't be hard to do. Got a 100gal. rubbermaid full sitting where they need to be moved to, so i'll have to do some shuffling around, but no biggie. Thanks.

SketchUp is the coolest thing ever.
