Sure Flow Problem

Jason:

I've had problems with the Sure Flow kits, Mark even replaced one for me. I wrote him but I'm wondering if you have had persistent problems. Here's mine:

My Sure Flow mod on my MJ1200 just started rattling like crazy. If I turn off and back on, it works for a bit then goes nuts.

I have removed and inspected. The pump and impeller are whistle clean. The stopper to correct for reverse flow is in-tact. The prop was a tiny bit scuffed, but I easily removed the hanging thread and it seems fine. I can’t find any visible reason why it would go crazy. Twice, it actually pulled the shroud off, so the running pump was exposed with no shroud.

Any ideas here? I looked and it does not seem like the white prop would pull off â€"œ I have several new ones as I used to make these mods myself. I was thinking of swapping the prop but it doesn't seem possible.

If you can offer any guidance I’d be grateful. I have no idea what to do but am about to give up as at $15 apiece, having to replace every 4-5 months isn't exactly ideal.

HI,

Sorry to hear about the problems. We have sold a ton of those and very few reported issues to us, probably only about 5 or 6 complaints that I can think of.

They might be going direct to the manufacture without contacting us though.

Are you using a maxijet 1200 on yours?

Yeah, the 1200. He's gonna send another ... not sure what. He said magnet, said prop, said shaft. Not sure in the end. I offered to return the whole kit to him in exchg for a new kit cuz it could even be the shroud. Who knows.

This is the second time I've had a problem. Dr. Good Luck and all....

I wish I could pry the prop off and replace with one of the half dozen I have lying around from when I used to make the mods. But is is pretty solidly on there it seems. Looks like they heat-mold it on.

Hopefully that new one will do the trick.

It does seem the few issues we have heard of are mainly with 1200's.

My mods lasted forever... except for the shroud part. The stopper was the real tricky part for me to get right. That's why I'm surprised these have issues.

How are the Eco mods, comparatively speaking?

And at IMAC I was told that Marineland is going to be selling the pump with their own propeller option. Any news on that?

We actually rarely sell the Eco Mod. We sold a lot to start, but once Sure Flow came out Eco Mod quit selling, probably 100 to 1. I haven't heard a single complaint on them though.

I haven't heard anything from Marineland, but they rarely send us any info, our customers usually seem to find out before we do....

Update: they sent 2 new props. Neither worked, and I tried on 2 different pumps. they run for a couple of minutes, then rattle like crazy, bouncing around.

Now they are sending a new magnet. I don't quite know why he wouldn't take me up on the offer to just send a new kit, and I'd send mine back. I have half a feeling the problem is the shroud even though I see nothing visibly wrong with it. But they didn't want to go that route. Whatever.

We'll see if the magnet makes a difference.

Hi,

Sorry to hear that didn't work for you. That is odd didn't do the whole kit to make sure everything is covered, hopefully this new part will get it fixed.

Yeah, it's annoying. And the magnet I have now is fine by all appearances. I really can't figure this out at all, the pumps are both clean and fine too. We'll see. Right now the old mod I made myself is running fine. Oh well.
