Surge Buckets

Have any of you ever used/built a surge bucket for you reef tank?

Not that I have set one up, but I have looked into it. Make sure your tank stand is sturdy or you will have the ultimate last surge.

Yeah, there are lots of DIY designs out there for surge units. but a lot of them end up sounding like the mens room at grand central station. if you know what i mean/ some of the more sensible units involved a tipping tank on a pivot that will tip and dump into the tank quietly, when it hits full. then the weight balance tips it back to the fill position. No big whirly flush!!!

I've had the design for one for a while. It works perfectly when I picture it in my head... lol. Both Al and Ken are right. Be careful and be warned it isn't easy to set it up in a way that it doesn't sound like a toilet flushing every couple of minutes.
