I am working on thinning out the corals in my tank, I want to open things up a bit, because I need to increase/ improve my flow.
The other issue I'm having is the "red" mushrooms that are overrunning my tank. I let them in when I took a bunch of LR from my father in law's tank...they have spread, and they are the devil. I hope increasing my flow will discourage the shrooms to grow, but I doubt it.
So I'm considering pulling all of my corals off the LR, and trading it out for some Marco or BRS base rock.
So...
Best base rock? Is there such a thing?
What do you typically need to do with the base rock? I've never used base rock before, but I want to remember somebody saying something about leaching PO4 or something along those lines.
How long would I need to seed it with LR before it would be ready to go? Could I just swap it out without seeding the base rock? I would probably be keeping ~20% of the LR.
