Is there any synthetic salt that is superior to another in regards to keeping octo's and do the higher amounts of heavy metals in some salts affect the octo's well being?
What you really need to be careful of is salts that have sodium thiosulfate in them. Some of the brands that people have had good luck with are, reef crystals, red sea, instant ocean, bioassay marine mix, HW marine mix, and tropic marin. Every body has their preferences.
I think natural ocean water is the best choice but not every body has the chance to get some.

Thanks for the info, I use IO on my reef tank but have heard it has higher levels of heavy metals than some of the other salt mixes. I have a RO/DI unit that is supposed to be delievered tomorrow for the sole purpose of keeping and octo and I wanted to make sure the salt I have would be ok with an octo.
