System plumbing configuration advice

Hi All,

I'm planning my next "dream tank" system and plan on a 72x27x21 main display, and a 48x24x16 display Fuge (or secondary display tank) to grow some show macros and maybe some other things. The main display will be LPS / anemone dominated. There will be one sump that both tanks share.

Question on plumbing. One idea is to have 2 independent return pumps, one for main display and one for display Fuge, and both tanks drain to sump. I know this will work and there's no added risk of a flood. Another idea is to gravity drain the main display to the Fuge and then the Fuge drains to the sump. There'd be one return pump that goes to the main display. I kind of like this because it eliminates a pump. Birth display tanks will have external overflows (maybe synergy reef with beananimal style drains). Any reasons why this configuration may not be a good idea? Possibly too much flow into display Fuge?

Thanks!

I think you answered your own question. :)

If they are connected you will have no control over the flow in the fuge.

You could also do one pump and two valves. Best of both worlds?
