T5 bulbs?

I'm getting ready to order some new bulbs for my tank, and was thinking of trying a new brand....I'm currently running 2x24W aquablue plus, and 3x24W actinic puls..all Giesemann bulbs.
Since I've been shifting more towards SPS I wanted to see what other SPS T5'ers are using..

ATI in terms of PAR outperforms Gies bulbs...you can find it in the equipment forumn(grims thread)...if you can get them....i used to get my ATI bulbs at reefgeek but they are out of blue plus and aquablue

ATI is developing a new sunpro bulb to be out soon

i currently run 4x54w tek

2 ATI Blue plus(satisfied with these wont change if i can avoid it)
1GE daylight(swapping out with sunpro when i comes out)
1 ATI aquablue(this i am going to tinker with sunpro when it comes out and blue plus)

i may tinker with the daylight bulb and try to Aqaublues

thats what i am using

Have you had any problems with bleaching and the daylight bulb.. I tried switching out one of my aquablue pluses for a midday sun bulb and about a week latter I started getting a lot of bleaching, but at the same time my alk had gotten low and the salinity was almost to 1.030 (since bought a refractometer).. I took the bulb out and got everything back in order, and haven't had the nerve to try swiching again....

T5's

T5's

hi,

I am using four (2 aquablue, 1 pure actinic, 1 6000 K mid day) 39 watt T5's on my 30 gallon reef tank. Growth rates have been good to excellent and I have only lost 1 acro to RTN (The great sliming Incident of 2006). Coloration is good with no bleaching and the only disappointment that I have experienced is that my blue tort is more of a brown tort with blue highlights. It was a spectacular blue green with metallic purple and blue highlights at the store. I probably could go with another aquablue bulb rather than the daylight to bring out the blue, but I prefer the balanced light of my current setup for photography. In my tank, its feeding tentacles are always out while they were retracted at the store. I am running these bulbs with the standard Tek light ballasts. I have read that you can increase the light output by using an Ice Cap 660 ballast. I would like to see some data on this observation before upgrading the ballast.

As Always,

Jim Z.

I havent lost any frags nor have any bleached.

I started with a daylight bulb before i ever had corals so they are all acclimated starting at the bottom of the tank for acclimation to the lights.

What happened to you was you had your corals at a certain elevation and with a certain light and bamm...you switched bulbs...its not becasue of the daylight per se but because they werent acclimated to it....about 100 something in a PAR difference...or about 25% more par...not too mention the other problems you were having....SO NO BLEACHING DUE TO DL FOR ME

there is no need to upgrade on a 30 gallon tank IMO

I think I already told you what I use David, so I thought I'd add a lil trivia. When I was doing alot of reading and talking what bugged me was there was no kelvin rating for the actinic and blue bulbs other than 450-470 nm, but dealing with two measurements concurrently to describe an overall color temperature was to me kinda ambiguous unless your in the know, and I evidently wasnt. Geismann breaks it down for us on the box, actinic+ = 22k ; aquablue+ = 15k. Now we know the kelvin and nanometer :)

Sorry if someone's broke this down already Ive been outta the loop for a few ;)
