I am setting up a 75 gal 48x18x20 reef tank would the 6 bulb tek light be enought to have sps or do I need to go with MH. Thanks Jim

Would the tek 6 bulb fixture be better or the retro in a hood as far as light output goes? Thanks Jim

I like the retros because you can build you own hood for them where the lights are closer to the water surface.

Couldn't you hang the fixture as close to the water surface as you like? Can you run the tek fixture off of a icecap ballast? How many 54w bulbs can you run off a 660 icap? Thanks jim

The Tek light fixture has built in ballasts so you cannot run an Icecap, at least not easily. You can get the fixture to about 2" from your water using the legs, plenty close for anything you want to keep. I run my 4x54w Tek at 6" above the water and my SPS frags at the top are starting to show new growth after only 3 weeks.

If I go with the 90 gallon instead of the 75 would the 4 inch height difference in the 90 affect the t5 lights any. Would I still be able to have sps in the 90 which is 24 inches tall compared to the 20 inches tall of the 75. Jim

will 8 54 w t5's fit over a 75 gallon tank 18 inches wide? Thanks Jim

The fixture itself will hang over the tank, but the bulbs will be above the water. Little goofy looking, but form follows function (to a point.)
