tail problem

I slowly noticed over the past week that our black Kuda isn't using his tail to hold onto things like he used too. Yesterday I noticed about a 1/4" of the tip of his tail is white. Still eating good, just not using his tail & I can't see any wounds or parasites other than the white tipped tail & a kink at the base of the tail under the pouch. I know I read about this before but with this ongoing blonde moment I'm having I can't remember it or find it. Wasn't there a list of seahorse diseases & treatments?

Sounds to me like Vibrio. IMO high temps (above 74F) can allow the pathogen to cause real problems. I know the seahorse will need to be treated in a hospital tank with a lowered temp down to 68F-69F. The reason for this is to slow down the infection.

Hopefully someone with success in treating Vibrio will be along shortly. I believe treatment would include the lowered temp, Neomycyn and Triple Sulfa. There may be past threads on RC in this forum discussing the issue as well that could be of help.

250 mg of the triple sulpha and 250mg of neomycin per gallon of water. Treatment is for ten days, must be completed.

Lowering temps below 69F is extremely helpful.

Enriching food with beta glucan is also good.

Make sure the hospital tank is bare bottom with no rocks. You will need to do a 50% daily waterchange replacing the same percentage of medication as the water change.

Several strains of vibrio are treatable.

DO a search on tail rot.
