I am setting up a prop tank to use for sps zoos and rics. I am using stuff I have to keep it cheap. I've decided not to plumb it to my display so I can use it for QT as well. Please take a look and evaluate.

Tank- 30 breeder 30"x18"x12" tall
Lighting- 175 Iwasaki 15k mag ballast
Rock-None
Sump- None
CA-kalk drip
Filtration-5 gallon DSB, Prizm skimmer
Water flow- Seio 1100
Fish- One damsel
Heater-200w
chiller, house fan.

leave the DAMNSEL out

put in something that actually has benefits:

six line wrasse for control of FW's and pyr snails
algae eater in case you get some algae

i would put a six line in a prop system if i had one

6 line, good idea!

I like the stability of rock + sand in my basement tank ... and while I've had fish in there, it almost runs itself if no fish.

My similar cheap setup:
60g Agrimaster tub
Seio + MJ Powerhead
175w MH, Ushio 14k bulb
Heater
DIY 2-part dosing

Mark et al , did you let your prop set up sit/cycle before you put corals in it? With no fish I am wondering if cycling makes sense, but it would just seem strange, not to let it sit for a while. I do have home hardy corals I can start with........

Why don't you connect to your main system with a ball valve that will allow you to cut it off from the display whenever you need to use it for quarantine? You get the advantages of the water volume and won't have to worry about top off, etc.

Yeah do a sixline or coris wrasse , or any good pest eater to help your cause . I do agree with new school to . You should plumb it in with a ball valve so it can be attached but disconnected . Just think , no frag acclimation .

I thought of that, but It's not really possible with my fish room set up, and for the amount of time it would be disconnected I think its easier to have a tank that can stand alone...
