is it normal for the underside of mille branches to not have pe and have the color of this one? it's growing well and when looked at from the top it looks great. just wondering.

Generally, when the coral grows thick to where it shades itself, you get the look that is shown in the picture. The 2nd scenario that gives the same look is when the coral has red bugs.
 
there might be other reasons....but that's all I know of. Did you just put the coral in the tank or has it been there awhile?
 
it's been in over six months and it's gotten really fat compared to when i first put it in. like i said, there is great pe on the top but underneath it looks only so so. but it keeps growing.
