sometimes directing a strong power head at them will get them to detach the frustrating part sometimes is to get them to reattach. i would not try anything drastic to remove them unless the rock was perfectly smooth and you can clean cut them off the rock with a razor. otherwise they will retract into any hole in the rock and you will end up with a badly mutilated ric and you'd wish you left them alone
If you can remove the rock from the tank, touch the edges of the rics slightly so it will retract and expose the area where you can cut with a dremel. If you do it carefully, you'll end up with 3 rics separated and attached to a piece of rubble.
