I'm researching a nano for my office. The LFS has a used 10g cube set up for $100 and i'm very tempted. I currently have a mixed reef 75rr tank with sump in my basement and am about ready to frag some of my LPS (frogspawn & torch). I also am looking at trading my current fish from the 75 and re-stocking. I have a good size Royal Gamma and wondering if he wouldn't be a good nano fish and if the LPS would manage in a nano.

I guess i'm looking at any advice on pro's and con's of setting up an office tank. Mostly I'm nervous about having so little water that i'll screw up something!!! Let me know your thoughts or suggestions on what I should do!

just for fun i also have an ancient 10g freshwater tank stored at my parents that hasn't seen water for about 20yrs. Could this be set up for less than $100?

the oldfreshwater tank is probably abad idea cebause silicone has a limited lifespan and it may be prone to leaking. As for setting up an office tank ingeneral just be sure that the power supply to the building is constant and you may even consider using a backup power supply box like those used on many computers to make u sleep a little better. An ATO isnt a bad idea either.

As far as under $100, it depends on what equpiment you already have, my light on my 10g was $100.

And I would buy a new 10g tank, they are only like $11 better than wondering if a copper treatment was used in the old tanks and finding out the hard way.

An office tank is a great idea! I recently moved my tank to work. You wouldn't believe how many people are amazed by a simple salt water tank. Altough mine is spectaculary good looking for a nano :) Anyways I have my tank lights on a timer. And I just keep a jug of fresh ro water under my desk for topping off the tank.

I too have a tank in my office. It's a 12G Aquapod with a few pieces of Fiji LR, a frag of pulsingn xenia, and 2 misbarred Percs. I must say that I have so many visitors on a daily basis that I am thinking of putting a collection jar next to the tank for a frag fund. $$$

i think theyre a great idea. i say go with an all-in-one tank, like an aquapod 12, a nanocube 6, or an eclipse kit (the 3 or a corner 5).

and yes there somewhat distracting

You should get a 12 gallon aquapod. That is what I have and I love it. It has good lighting and all my coral's are very healthy and happy. My fish are doing great too.
