Tang Heaven?

Any one have experience with Tang Heaven?

I am debating getting some of this stuff. I have a few questions though.

I have a sump with my ASM protein skimmer in it, but I do not have a refugium. Can I grow this stuff in my sump with the skimmer by just adding a light, or would I be better off setting up a separte 20gal system just for growing this stuff?

In my experience you need very intense light to keep it from falling apart over a few weeks. Even than, it doesn't grow very fast, if at all.

I've had it grow quite fast when my nutrients were up just a bit. At times I've had to give or throw large amounts away. Right now it is just hanging on as my nutrient levels are quite low. It definitely does best with high light and strong flow.

actually just bought some of this algae. should the light be on 24/7. I am using a 250 watt halogen work light in a 30 gallon refugium. plenty of nutrients available as I have a fowlr

I have generally used a 16 on/ 8 off schedule, FWIW.

I'm assuming the tang heaven here is gracilaria.

I have some gracilaria in my tank. When I originally got it, it would grow for a while and then fall apart. A few of the pieces survived and they would then start to grow again. After alot of searching, I found a place that recomended dosing iodine and iron. (Just dosing iron didn't help the gracilaria at all.) Apperently graciliria is very high in iodine. (About 3 times higher then caulerpa.) So, it make some since that it might need iodine to grow. I've started dosing 1/4 tsp of iodine and a few drops of iron twice a week, and my gracilaria is now growing consistently. It seems to survive in both high and low light. Though I'm not sure how well it grows in low light.

I just got some yesterday, and I added another bulb to my fuge. I'm running 2 x Philips Daylight CF bulbs (27W, 1600lumens, 6500k). Is that enough light??
