Tangs with Tangs

Hi all, I have an 85 gallon reef tank thats been goin for about 4 months now, I have a yellow tang and diamond goby that are doing great. I also have the random cleaner crew, snails, hermits and a large cleaner shrimp. I am starting to look around for 1 or 2 more fish to add to my tank, I was looking at a blue tang and either a lemonpeel or whitecheek tang. LiveAquaria.com says that both of these tangs will be agressive towards other tangs and peaceful towards different species. Is this completely true or does it happen once in a while. Id hate to buy either one of these fish only to have them pick at each other constantly.

Thanks

you should be able to put another tang in there, but not a big one. I would think that a kole tang might work, but watch for aggression.

I looked at the kole and im curious if a whitecheek would work as well, it says it gets 1" longer and has the same gallon requirement as the kole.

I have a yellow tang and pacific blue and had a naso.....all were peaceful towards one another.....try to introduce at the same size and variation in color...as the reverend stated....

Acanthurus tangs like the Whitecheek, powder blue, powder brown, Achilles.....etc need bigger tanks . Certain tangs like the yellows, kole, and scopas would be fine for your tank. However, they become very territorial with age. If your tang is established, it will be very hard to add another fish, much less another tang.
