Tank Cover

I am setting up my first reef tank. I am curious do I need a tank cover or just a screen (for when I get my fish) and a light fixture/bar. Thanks in advance for any advice!

You do not need to have a cover, however it is necessary if you plan on buying fish that can jump. A glass cover is good if you really want nothing jumping out but it will limit gas exchange. A screen-type cover is good because it will allow you to keep fish that can jump and it doesn't limit gas exchange. Just make sure that it is blocking minimal light. It really just boils down to personal preference.

Also, heat retention to the system and having to clean the salt creep build up from glass tops.

You can get some screen from BRS and the screen frames from depot or anything like that.

All fish can and will jump out it is just a matter of time before one goes carpet surfing. Good luck
