Tank fish free, what else? Need suggestions...

OK, my 155 gal recently became infested with ick. It killed my tusk fish, a wrasse, and infected my lionfish. My eel seems to be OK.

I've recently read alot of articles about what to do. Basically, I've setup a hospital tank, fresh water dipped the lionfish, and he is now quarantined for 40 days to undergo a copper treatment.

The eel is also going to be quarantined.

This is going to leave my main display (the 155 gal) empty of all fish life for 40 days. From what I've read, this should break the cycle of the ick.

While this display is empty of all fish, what else should I be doing (besides letting it sit there with pumps running and skimmers skimming) to this tank?

I do have a few other problems I would like to address while this tank is empty.

1. I have spotted one Aiptasia.
2. I have hair algea pretty bad.

Any suggestions on what I can do during this 40 day period to rid my tank of the 2 above mentioned problems and/or anything else.

I figured this is the one and only time I am going to have my display empty of all fish, I wanted to capitalize on it.

Thanks for your inputs... --Greg

you could raise the temperature to speed the lifecycle of the crypto parasite, theoretically killing off the population faster. Also you could leave the lights off (and if you feel like it cover the tank) to work out that hair algae problem.

You might get more and better help by posting your questions about the two other conditions, in another Forum here at RC. The people who usually help out here are more experienced with fish diseases rather than tank problems.

However, after having said this. . .

If you see on Aiptasia (and assuming you don't want them in your tank) KILL IT now by removing it. Kill/remove all you see whenever you see it/them.

Marine Ich (Cryptocaryon irritans) is not that all affected by temperature changes, i.e., it doesn't appreciably change its life cycle time with an increase in temperature. Temperature does affect the freshwater version, though.

If I had any recommendation, it would be not to go 40 days, but to go a full 8 weeks without fish. :D
