Tank has ich, keeps killing fish. Will QT help new fish?

Sorry for yet ANOTHER ich question, to add to the 43234521345 threads already. My DT has ich in it, my fish now are fine, but every time I add new fish, they get infected horrifically, and usually die. I just lost a yellow tang this way, who was eating great. I've got a 55G I am thinking of setting up as a QT tank, with cupramine. But my question is, if I QT my new fish, won't they still end up with an ich infection when I introduce them into the DT, and they they will prob die anyway? Thanks for any help.

Rather than rewriting the information, please check these stickies. Basically, your tank has ich. To remove it from your display tank, the display tank will need to be without fish for 72 days and your existing fish treated for ich as described in the stickies.

In short, Yes. Qting new arrivals will do nothing for them as they will get infested upon entering the DT. You should Move your fish into a QT/Hospital tank and treat them while leaving the DT fallow(No fish, inverts are fine.) for 10 weeks(72 days)(To be certain its all gone.) the 3 most popular methods of treatment are Tank transfer, hypo-salinity, and Copper Treatment. Anything else either is difficult to dose properly, or of questionable Effectiveness. you can read up on these methods and more on one of the many stickys on this forum as snorvich suggested.

none of these methods are quick and easy and once you successfully treat this i suggest Qting all new Arrivals(fish and invert alike if you want t be 100% safe) for 72 days at least to avoid Having to go through all this trouble again.

Good luck.
