Tank heater.

Hi all,
I was reading in the last few days about heaters. looks like most people recommend titanium heater.
I saw in older post here that Finnex is the way to go, but after reading Amazon reviews they barely received 3 starts out of 5. (base on 200+ reviews).
I'm not set on Finnex or titanium. if you guys have better suggestion/ experience I would like to hear it please.

My system is 70gal total. and I can't afford APEX system.

The finnex we tend to recommend does not come with its own thermostat. They are just a titanium heating tube that requires a separate controller to control the temps.

Been using one on my FW tank for about 10 years(same heater still going strong), and on ein my reef for 4 years. Never a single issue in the 10 years I've been using them.

I have had very good luck with the Eheim Jager (formerly Ebo Jager) heaters, with a couple in use for 20 years without a problem. I like to go the route of 2 heaters that are each undersized for the entire system. Apparently when heaters do fail, they tend to do so in the On state. So if one fails and stays on, it will not over heat the system as the other one, which is still functioning, will just turn off. Also, this way you can slightly over design the total heating capacity for situations when extra heat input is required. This has been helpful for me when going on a winter vacation and knocking the heat back in the house. I do have an Apex, so I am able to see that both heaters needed to be on significantly longer each day to keep the temperature up.

A temperature controller as mentioned above is a good safe guard too.
 
i have been using finnex heater elements for 10+ years now. i wont use anything else for my personal tank.
for me, i wont use anything made out of glass.
 
I recently had my Finnex heater controller die on me. I kept hearing a clicking, like a relay, coming from my sump one night and then all of a sudden the high temp warning tone issued. I found my temp controller oscillating between 66-99 degrees, when the true temp was 68 (set point was 76). I also noticed a small shock when I messed with the thermostatic probe, so something happened to short it. Right now I have a single Eheim but really want another controller so I may go with the Inkbird.

It seems to be pretty darn reliable for what it is..
I think I've only seen 1 reported failure..

In todays age though EVERYTHING can fail regardless of the brand or reliability so far...

I ordered now eheim jagers 300w for my tank. base on your reviews and not having to buy controller atm
 
I am very happy with the 2 Finnex heaters, I run them on my Apex with a backup controller.

I still have Eheim heaters going from when I kept cichlids 15 years ago in high school. Only had a handful have burnt out over the years and I won't run a tank with anything else.
 
I just got my first ink bird controller and it's nice. Seems my heater isn't always turning on and off like before I installed it.
