would a 3 and a half gallon reef tank be ok for ricordia i mean the whole thing was designed for a small reef??

I think it would be fine as long as you have adequate lighting (PC or better) and keep up on your water quality- you may need to do slightly more frequent water changes in a tank so small, but it is so small they should be relatively quick and easy.

Also look out for evaporation.. I find in our 3g I need to add a little every day or so - its more noticable in my bigger tank but you'd be surprised how quick a small one can loose water

Yeah, top off is the biggest problem for nanos. Keep up on that and it should be fine.
