Tank lids

Grace tank

I purchase a zebra moray eel about 5or6 months ago and when I did I also had glass tops made for the tank. My question is-does any body keep eels without lids on their tanks? I also have the tank fully stocked with corals and if I do not constantly clean the glass tops my corals don't seem to be happy due to the fact that the lighting does not penetrate as good. So, is it a good or bad idea to remove the tops?

I have just simple screen top. I went to Home Depot and bought their rail kit and then some screen door material and that's it. Haven't had him try to escape yet.

Eels are known to open lids if they don't have some weight on them. I'd personally build a canopy with a light fixture built into it so there is no glass in the way of the light, but also is hard to be pushed open. It doesn't take that long considering lowes and home depot will make the cuts for free.
