I'm setting up a tank soon and was thinking about where to put it. My understanding is stay away from windows because of the algae. I've had hair algae before and i'm terrified of having that happen again lol. Problem is my entire house is lit up with sunlight during the day. There are a lot of windows... How much of an issue do you guys think this will be? I'm setting up an 8g invert only focusing on corals to start so there shouldn't be a huge bioload. Maybe I could put some emerald crabs or something else in there?

keep it out of direct sunlight and you should be ok. windows can also be drafty which can keep a stable temperature tougher to maintain.
Good point my house temperature fluctuates a lot, it's either cold or really cold lol, was hoping my heater controller would keep the tank stable though. There are windows directed at basically every angle in my apartment, i have curtains, but a lot of light gets through. Enough I don't need lights on at all until it's dark.

mine is close to a normally closed window in a condo as well. fortunately it deals well with the temp changes and sees no direct sunlight.

I set my first tank up near a window. I watched and it did not get any direct sun. Then the fall came the leaves fell and direct sun galore followed by temp issues the colder it got. Ultimately I ended up moving it thankfully it was just a 29g.
If your hard pressed for a spot I would suggest some decent curtains to block the sun and help in the colder months. Good luck just my 2 cents.
