Tank Price, is it good?

I have the opportunity to purchase a used glass tank. It is 380 gallons, 72inch wide, 42 inches high and I believe 30 inches deep. It has two corner overflows. I can get it for $3k. Any thoughts? Is that a fair price?

Thanks

Joe

it sounds pretty pricey for a used tank.

how thick is the glass? manufacturer? age of aquarium? starphire? bracing?

all tanks in america are a rip off(assuming you live in america), move over to australia our tanks are half the price of americas.

btw id say 19mm would of been used in which case it is a ripoff its second hand but about the price new.

I just bought a used 220g (yes it's smaller, and no overflows), and stand on craigslist for $250.
I'm sure it's a little nicer but that seems a bit high.

Time to negotiate!

The cost to light a 42inch tall tank is going to hit your pocket book quick too. 1000 watt lights needed to penetrate that deep.

It's the price we pay for not living with 10 of the world's deadliest insects and snakes and such. :D

I bought a used 120x24x36 450g glass tank for $500.

I had built a 96x24x36 360g tank from glass cages for $1800.

You saw that lastnight too, huh? lol

Paid $2900 for my 84x42x25 AGE tank, brand new. If your considering spending that much, get it built to your specs. That's way too much for a used tank.

Thanks for the feedback

I did some googling and I think you are all right. I was worried about the hight of the tank as well. I like the height but the lighting would be a problem. I think I would like to go with something longer and a bit shorter. I'm thinking 96x36x30 or 96x36x36.

Any suggestions of where I can have this made and should I do acrylic or glass?

Actually found a nice acrylic tank on fishtanksdirect.com, 96w x 36h x 30w for $2876

Does anyone know where I might find the same tank for less?

Joe

Yeah, I think my LFS is trying to make a buck on me because he said 3K for the tank or the tank for free and I would buy all the equipment to set it up from him. The problem is, I always find the same stuff online for much cheaper.

Joe

Yeah, everythings gonna be more expensive at the LFS. But you really cant blame them. They dont have as large of a crowd of customers like the internet, and they do have rent to pay. But I shop online, unless its for live stock. I like to save my money when possible lol.

order your equipment online. they cant compare to online prices. also, get a custom tank if you're going to spend that much.

where do you live? you should find out where better fish stores are.
