Ok I'm just about ready to brake my 75 down and move everything to the 120.
I'm replceing all the sand except for 1-2lbs of the old sand. Use it to seed the new tank
Here is what I'm planning.
Have the 120 match ph,temp, ect. of the 75
put all livestock in brute trash can
remove rock place in tubs. I have 6 tubs for this
place corals in tubs

collect some livesand place in new tank
place liverock in new tank
place corals
prepare fish for transfer then place in tank

should I save and use water from the 75 ?
I figure about 6hrs

sound about right or am I missing something

please give me your imput
don't want to lose anything

thanks

I'll just add that make sure you rinse your new sand. I just did the same kind of switch about 6 weeks ago and didn't rinse the new sand. Needless to say, it made a giant mess when I put the old water in the new tank and took a while to clear up.

As long as you keep the water temp at a normal level in the holding tanks/tubs you'll be fine. Even with all the mess I created, I only lost one coral (out of 10) and that was mostly because I forgot about it in a bucket.

Best of luck.

I just did this going to a 90gal. My advice is to plan for A LOT more time than you originally thought (at least in my case). It took me almost 12hours. Things happen, plumbing, electrical, etc... I would make sure you have plenty of heaters for the storage bins and air pumps would be a good idea for the fish. Don't cram too many fish together. I did and lost my coral beauty. Stupid.

Depending on the quality of your existing water, I would use as much of it as you can. Try to lessen the shock.

For the sand, I used my old sand for a dsb in my refugium and added new sand in the display. Put some garbage bags on top of it and old it down with a few rocks, then fill into a bowl on top of that. This really kept the sand storm down. Problem was that after this went perfect, when I started adding rock and aquascaping, i kicked up a sand storm anyway. It all settled down by the next day though.

Good luck.
