My 75g tank temp in the morning with lights off is bout 5deg higher than the room temp.Isn't this a little high?I run a 26w screw in cf bulb on the 20g sump at night.2 mj1200(one of wich is on the skimmer),1 seio 820 and a mag 12 return.Anybody have a problem with any of these pumps runnin hot?

Pumps and powerheads add some heat to your water temp. Some are worse than others. As long as the temp is stable and not excessive, I don't worry about it too much. Do you run a fan over your sump or display tank?

Well without the lights, and a room temp of 75 puts the tank at close to 79-80.Whith lights on it sometimes goes to 82.5.....2 or 3 deg from the lights is fine. Its the other 5deg im wondering about.I have fans in the canopy not the sump

Put the fans on timers, if they aren't already. Run them when the lights are on. All of those pumps are going to generate heat, especially the maxi-jets (you'd be surprised) and the Mag 12 is the real killer if you are running it submerged.

82.5 is no problem, IMO. My tank often hit 84 or 85 in CA in the summer; I didn't kick on the chiller until 84+. Of course, I ran it at 80-81 the rest of the time. Livestock used to 78F are probably going to be stressed at that high a temp.

I agree with Nicole on the temp's.

I have all three types of powerheads and pumps that you mentioned. They do add a lot of heat to my 120.

I suppose you keep your room temp pretty steady throughout the day. My house is on a programmable thermostat (unfortunately for my reef tanks.) The temp is set differently when there are people in the house and when there is no one around in the house. This makes a huge difference in the summer time. Even with a fan over my sump, my temp was hitting 84 to 85 in late afternoons. After adding a fan over a display tank (on a timer with my MH lamps) in addition to the existing fan over the sump, it really made a big difference. With two fans, my temp is staying at a 79 - 81 range throughout the day in the summer time.
