Target feeding Concea. How often and what?

No need to feed clams. Strong light and fish poo is enough for her!;-) But if you really want, you can add live phyto to your tank once a week.

What if there's no fish in your tank?

According to your signature you just set up your tank? You need to wait until your tank is at least 6 months old and you are positive your water paramaters are excellent. I am guessing by then you will have some fish in there. If you have fish and corals the clams will filter thier byproducts and don't need fed. Clams get most of what they need from your light anyways. Please read these 2 threads before even thinking about buying a clam.

My tank is almost two years old now. I have fish in my tank =D My clam is about 3.5" or so. I have read your articles, I think the clam will be fine. It seems completely happy. I had just read that clams cant get 100% of what they need from light, so I was considering target feeding.

I know, I was just saying what if. I'm guessing a tank full of corals would be the same.

If you have fish and strong lightning, don't need to feed, the clam will get what she want in the water. If you really want to feed, don't target feed, just put live phyto in your tank, it will be ok!;-)

If its a small clam you might want to feed it. say under 2in.

That was just a myth. Even if they are smaller, clams don't need more food than the big one.

piXiecath can you provide more information on who proved that a myth please? i am trying to find out for my 1.5 in crocea

It isn't so much as a myth than it is a fact. If you have fish they release nitrate and ammonia "poo and pee":D The clam gets supplimental food from this. Your 1.5" crocea is alot older than you think, crocea's are the slowest growers. Also target feeding may clog the gills and do more damage than good. I just squirt phyto into my tank for the corals and if the clams get some that is great.
