TDS reading. Can this be right?

Well Ive had my RODI unit for about 10 mo. I recently ordered replacement filters along with a digital tds meter. I have never taken a reading until today. I havent replaced the filters yet and heres what I read.

First I measure tds in one of my 7gal jugs of rodi topoff water. it read 060. hmmm. I decided to read water straight out of my tap. it read 040. mmmhmmmm. I grab a cup and fill it straight from my rodi filter. 002. ok, I go back to the jug and shake it real good. let it settle and take a reading. 821!!! What the #^%&!!? I dash to my 2 other 7 gal topoff jugs and take a reading. 004 and 006.
I purchased the replacement filters cause I have been increasingly fighting algae. Perhaps it is this jug that I should blame?
Would it be safe to say that I somehow got contaminants in that one jug? What would you do to clean it or would you toss it? Theres no smell to it at all.

Please help

well, a quick update on this. I decided to just dump the jug, rinse it with a gallon of "good" ro water and refilled it. Then tested...002. Maybe the jug is slowly leaching something, but I doubt it. I cant believe it would leach enough to kick the numbers up that high. My rodi unit is under my sink so I fill up in the kitchen....maybe my 15 year old dropped a slice of pizza in it or something, lol.

How long have you had the jug and has anything else been placed in it? Dust and dirt may have gotten in it.

I bought all 3 jugs at the same time. same time I got my RO/DI unit. I never leave them empty. Whenever I empty one to fill up my ATO I refill it with fresh RODI. I did store freshly made up salt water in one of them for a few days. It has since been refilled and used many times over tho.

Do a TDS test on the water right after you make it. I use a COMM-100 portable TDS meter, Its the most accurate meter out there. If the water has a good TDS reading......its good to go.

Once the RODI water is exposed to air, or sits in a jug for a while, the TDS will change. This doesn't mean it's not good to use.

That almost sounds like it had kalk in it, especially when the TDS went through the roof when you shook it.....

I took a reading of the new RODI water from "the" jug. It has now been in the jug overnight. It tested at 001. Pretty weird. I tested that thing 7 or 8 times yesterday, it was not an error reading. Definitly going to start measuring my tds in my jugs before adding them to my system.

Flipper, Are you saying a reading of 800tds isnt necessarily problematic?

redfishsc I have never used kalk. But I agree whatever it was mustve settled in heavy concentrate in the bottom of the jug.
