my low at night is usually about 80 when moolights are on . i have on fan that comes on with the halides and another the kicks on if the temp reaches 80.5. and the temp doesn't go over 80.5 during the day

80-80.5 is a good, tight range. I dont know if you had a question or not or just wanted to state your temp? If you had a question in mind, post it and you will probably get some faster responses. Either way if it is temp related (or not?) you dont have any issues, this is a common temp-range and most dot have issues with it.

I wish my tank stayed in a 1/2 degree range. Corals will not notice or react negatively to that small a swing.

i run 79-80 in the winter.... 81-82 in the summer .... i thought i was doing pretty well with these variances.... nailing it down to .5 would be very tough for me.

If having issues with nailing down a tight stable temp, a heater controller made by RANCO works great, and the dual stage controllers RANCO makes can be used to run a heater and a chiller/fan. I run a RANCO controller and even though I have the controller set for a tolerance of 1 degree (the smallest tolerance) it stays well within a degree, actually .7 degrees to be exact. Not bad in my opinion.
