Temp issue.??

Hey guys...
I have a 24 gallon Cardiff... The tank is running with everything it comes with including a maxi jet 1200... I have an LED fixture about 110 watts hanging over the tank about 7 inches from surface... I do have a glass top over the tank...
Now, my temp is at 88 degrees and I'd really like to get it around 80... I def don't want a chiller... What can I do to lower the temp
Or what can be causing this heat??
 
With such a little volume temp will always be high in the summer, you could always setup a fan or 2 to blow across the surface of the water helping evaporation in result lowering the temp, you will however though have to top up more frequently since the evaporation rate will be higher
 
Only issue my tank has a
Glass top.. I need it because I'd like to keep a small wrasse and firefish... Would it help if it blew over the tops to move heat produced by lights or does it have to go over the water surface?
 
Well your LED fixture should not be creating enough heat to make that much of a difference, you would need the fans blowing across the surface of the water, other then that they only thing I could see working would be a chiller
 
I dint get it :( people have LED's on nanos and don't use chillers.!! Could it be the pumps? Glass tops??
 
I'm sorry for the frustration.. It just goes against all logic.. LEDS dont run as hot or produce that type of heat, so they say, lights sit high enough to not be an issue, from what I have read.. Nano cubes ate completely included and can run LEDS with no chiller..
 
Ok.. Took glass top off.. Temp has gone down a bit... Will decreasing the amount of time I run my lights allow me to keep the glass top on? I'd really like a wrasse and firefish and know I need the top to prevent jumping..

I think removing the glass tops will be your best bet. Leave them off for a day and see how it goes.
 
Update.. Glass off for 1/2 day temp had gone down to 80... Is that where I want to be for some LPS zoos and some SPS.?? What can I do about covering the tank..?? I really would like to do so to keep my desired fish.!!??

80 is good. Can you use some egg crate for a cover? You will also be evaporating more so keep an eye on that.
 
Adding egg grate will minimize the chances of them getting out since they would have to make an accurate jump to make it through one square, I am sure it has happened before but its better than having an open top. Or you can put the lids back on and have the temp go back up, we all have choices that are tough sometimes
 
Correct, eggcrate won't work. You can buy 1/4" clear netting from bulk reef supply and a window screen kit from home depot and make a top that'll keep fish in and let heat out.

Ditch the glass tops
