While working on my tank I noticed that my water felt colder than usual to the touch. My AC Jr temp was reading at 121 degrees, while a check with a traditional thermometer showed 73 degrees. My heater is programmed to kick on at 79.5 but the temp was reading 121 so obviously it wasn't coming on. Worse, my cooling fans come on at 80.5 so they were blowing. I don't think it was like this long, since the fans would have pushed the tank to room temp or below if it had been. I have of course turned off the fans and plugged the heater directly into a live outlet to bring it back up.
My question is this, should I buy a new temp probe or is the problem more likely the unit itself? I don't know how a probe could go bad, as nothing was touching it and it is in perfect physical shape. Thanks for any advice. - Alan
