Temperature

We are pretty new to this hobby - and need some pointers on temperature. Our tank is a steady temp of 83 degrees, which we thought to be pretty high. We were checking into getting a chiller, but were told that some tanks do well at temps up to 86 degrees as long as there are not huge fluxuations each day - and the temp remained steady. Our heater worked a lot when we first filled the tank, but now that we got the water up to the proper temp I think that the lights and pump and skimmer are producing the heat to push us up to the 83 degrees. What do you all suggest? Leave it at 83 or try some canopy fans to cool the lighting? Open to any ideas.

I don't see much of a problem with it--just try not to let it rise too far above 84 for any extended period of time.

As long as the temperature doesn't change drastically from day to day, you should be fine. Like Amphiprion said, though, make sure it doesn't get too far above 84. In that case you might need to find a way to make the tank cooler. If you're really concerned, try turning the heater down a bit as well.
