Tenneti tangs - how many?

I am just starting a 125 gallon reef tank with plans to go to a 300 gallon in about 1 to 1.5 years. I have played with a 28 nano for awhile now and I kept salts back in the dark ages before technology. Anyway to get to the question, I have fallen in love with the Tenneti tang and I would love to keep multiples, I am thinking 3 or 4 starting with small-medium specimens. Has anyone else tried multiples and does it work. I am also looking at orange spot tangs since I hear that the two species are compatible. Any input would be greatly appreciated. New to posting and this site and returning to the hobby after a 25 year hiatus. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge of this site. Thanks :fish1:

125 will probably end in fighting between the tangs. Im looking at getting both these tangs for my 300, and from my research and talking to people who have these tangs together i'd advise the following.

If i were you id chose one of either the orange shoulder tang (Acanthurus olivaceus) or the tenneti (Acanthurus tennenti) for the 125, as in the long term this will be too small of a home for them (if the upgrade doesnt happen). and then get the second one when you upgrade into the new tank, introducing them together so that territories can be mapped out at the same time.

but thats just me.

I actually did mean orange shoulder tang (A. olivaceus), it had been a long day. I actually have the 300, but I am doing the remodeling of the basement and it will take a while to get it done with other projects around the house ahead of it. The tank will be built into the wall. That was why I was looking at smaller specimens for the 125, which will become a predator tank once the 300 gallon is online.

cool, well if you have the 300 already why not try out the combination in the 125 which will be "easier" to catch the fish if it doesnt work out. It'll probably come down to the personality of the fish.

I had a tenetti in my 120, very mellow and I think good looking tang that is often over looked. I mysteriously lost him after 2 yreas or so. Anyway, I'd go with this fish in the 125 only because should your future upgrade plans be delayed the adult size of the tenetti, although not suited for a 125 is still a better fit for a longer period of time than the orange shoulder which is a bit larger as an adult. Both great tangs and high on my list shoud I ever get a large tank going again.
