Test Kits???

I use Salifert for
Calcium
ALk
mag
Nitrate
I had the phosphate one qand i hated it there is no way you can tell the colors apart. the blues are too close

ALso heard real good things about the Elos test kits

I have been having a HORRIBLE time with Salifert Alk tests and there are a lot of threads documenting this lately.

Most other tests, are fine by them considering Mg, Ca needs to just be over a certain point. Yes, the P04 one is a bit touchy and I have never liked the color o comparison........what do the color blind folks do? Oh I see now, if you turn the card over there is a handy dandy "bulls eye" to throw darts at.

Elos Alk are great, but I like the resolution of the Salifert being to the .x rather than x. as in the Elos, but a quality kit no doubt.

I broke down and ordered a LaMotte Alk kit, which are famed for being the best, even showing when you have gone too far. Still in the mail......can you find them locally, I hadn't seen?

I would buy the little kit that comes with the Nitrate, Nitrite, Ph, and Ammonia first......after a year or so you will know what is what and will need them rarely, but get them and test frequently to be able to corelate what you see in the tank with the reading.

After that buy a quality Alk, Ca, P04, Mg in that order. Due to cost, you can get one a month and they will last you quite a while.
