TEW647GA issues staying linked

I have my apex linked to this gaming router. Issue I am having is that it will stay linked for 8-9 hours then it gets disconnected and I have to unplug the gaming router to reset it. Then it will work.

Why is this happening? Is it a bad gaming router? Do you recommend something else? Is there a setting on the gaming router interface I should have it on? so this won't happen. I am lost and it drives me crazy that it worked all day then at night it went down, is it because more folks are on the net at night???.

Best regards,

I think that is the one I tried using and had the same issue. I gave up and instead routed a cable through the attic. You need to be hardwired anyway to do firmware updates on the Apex. After I had returned the adapter, I think I read that the issue was resolved with a firmware update (for the adapter). Check the manufacturer's website.

Firmware was updated last Wednesday this unit is 1 week old. unless it's newer than that, this thing is done. Anyone else have thoughts?

How far away is the gaming adapter from the wireless router? How many walls between the two? The only other thing that I can think of is a weak signal. If you don't already have the Apex running on your tank, you can try a test. Move the Apex and adapter to within a few feet of the router and see how long it maintains a connection. If it stays connected, then it is probably a signal strenth issue. If not, you will need to try a different wireless adapter.

That may be pushing it. As I recall, there was a feature in the game adapter firmware that showed signal strength. Take a look for that. What about doing the test?

The trick with these models is to disable DHCP, but static IP instead, and disable the multicast functionality

All sound good but aren't great options. Pointed this thread to an engineer buddy of mine and he is devising something to make this a solid link.

We are still tinkering with the gaming router but I think it's really not up ti the task I want it to do.

Hey guys/gals. I recently hooked up a TrendNet TEW647GA to my AC3 this weekend. It's going thru a wall or two from a bedroom, thru fireplace, to mid living room. I'm using Aquanotes on my iPhone to check/modify the AC3 and I'm not having any lag/drops or resetting issues besides the occasional random "connection failed" in which it takes about 3 seconds for my iPhone to find and connect. So it can work relatively problem free on the AC3.

I'm not the most tech savvy guy and I had to tweak a few things on my router page to get it working. I think right now I'm on a dynamic IP. Oh, I'm also on the most up-to-date AC3 firmware, which is 3.4s.

I actually just posted in the "Static or Dynamic IP?" thread that's currently on the front page. I'm having trouble with accessing my AC3 from the internet abroad and I need to tweak things again. :sad1: AND my AC3 page on my desktop has a bunch of dead links so I have to adjust settings on AC3 itself or iPhone at my house.

I hope this uneventful post helps someone and if anyone has advice, I'm all ears.

Well, I'm now having the same issue.

I lost connection to Aquanotes today and unplugged and replugged the gaming adapter today and it worked. Wickedfish, did you figure out a solution???

Can anyone help me get my AC3 setup once and for all??? I just don't have experience here. I'd gladly paypal you for your time. :)

Thanks,

Blake

I was all happy for us then you run into the same issue as me.

Thus gaming router is not suited to go through all of our obstacles as far as I have seen and experienced. I think it's just made for same room functionality. Say we actually go in vacation, your heat goes up and you want to shut off your lights and heater, guess what your gaming router needs to be reset, bummer now your away and screwed.

I'm not gonna risk my vacation and aquarium with a 24$ gaming router. Not because of the price tag but because the longest it worked was 10 hours straight, without a reset or reconfiguring.

I'm going hardwire, which means I need another dsl outlet or 200ft of Ethernet chord to go around the back of the house. My wife thinks I am crazy! btw. I agree, a lot of work for this to run properly. But well worth it.

Check out a slinglink. Its hardwired using your homes electrical wiring, $66 on walmart.com and has worked like a charm. I set mine up in literally 2 mins. Surprised they are not more popular for this application.

I realize that you just bought it, but make sure it has the latest firmware. I was having the same problems until I flashed the new firmware and it has been solid since then.....

Update:

Status: Currently working (for 1 straight hour) :)

Noon - I had a 57 minute phone call with Eugene at Neptune (super nice guy) and we had issues with my AC3, but had it working when directly connected to my router. Main thing to note is I hooked up a dyndns account to make this happen. We believe we assigned a new IP to the AC3. The iPhone ap Aquanotes now has my dyndns host name. To go along with this change we changed the port (on AC3 & Linksys router) to port # 5000 to avoid the potential COX (or whoever) disabling of the linking to the standard port 80. OK. It's doing what it's supposed to do.

So I hook the TrendNET 647GA back up to the AC3 and NOT WORKING

Later this afternoon - I had a 56 minute phone call with Sean at TrendNET (pretty patient guy also!) We took the adapter and hooked it up to to a laptop, reset its settings, disabled the wireless capabilities in the laptop, and got the adapter working thru the LAN of laptop. OK. It does what it's supposed to do.

So I hook the TrendNET 647GA back up to the AC3 and NOT WORKING

I called Eugene back and we looked at the AC3 again. In Net Setup, we turned DHCP to ON. Then, in Net Setup we did a Restart. The AC3 assigned itself a newer IP (now 192.168.1.107). I then turned DHCP back to OFF so it wouldn't eventually get assigned a different IP. Turned on 3G on my iPhone and I can now pull up my controller on my Aquanotes ap. I can go to my desktop and type: 192.168.1.107:5000 and pull up my controller page there as well.

So, at 17:57 central time, I'm looking at the TrendNET 647GA which is connected to the AC3 and

IT'S WORKING

I'll let you guys know what happens over the next 24 hours ;)

Update:

My AC3 went offline roughly 8-10 hours after I had everything working. I've had a busy few days lately, but I hooked up the gaming adapter and updated the firmware on it again and have it hooked back to the AC3. They are both now on their most current firmware.

Note: I had to tweak my port forwarding on my router back to 192.168.1.50

I'll let you guys know what happens and if it disconnects again.
