Thanks for the help but...

What do I get out of the club?

Number 1 is the relationships you make. That way when your tank is crashing, people will come to your aid. Or if it crashed they will donate items to get you up and going again. Or if you need a ride to the frag swap or speaker. Or if you cant make it, someone can pick up the light or pump that you bought. I can go on and on.

To me personally, its all about the people, not the information. The information is just a bonus. The speakers are a bonus. the swaps & pizza parties are a bonus. Even the group buys are a bonus.

That is what makes the club so valuable to me. I hope that is what will make it important enough for you to join & contribute to.

Here is what I get for my $20. This sums it up Friendships and the oppurtunity to hang out with people with the same interest that I have. You are exactly right we could find the same info on the net with out paying dues but we wouldn't have a central place to meet some local reefers as easy. Lets face it, if this club did not exist this local forum probably go away. The money we spend goes toward speakers the club brings in which are very informative. I spent $100 to see some of the same speakers at IMAC. We are not the only club that you have to pay dues. For example the Kiwanis my dad is a member and I ask what he gets for the money. He not only pays dues but volunteers time to different events that they put on. He does this to visit with friends and meet people he may not normally meet. He also does this to make a difference. I fill that there are certain things you can't put a price on. Just fill good that eventually you will be in a club where someone can come to you and ask you a question and then you can pass on the enthusiasm we all have for the hobby. I look at as some of those priceless commericials. like
tickets to chicago/hotel - 200
Imac ticikets - 80
hearing about bamboo whippings - pricless

Take the plung pay the $20 and see what happens. I feel that you will get out of it what you want to!!!!

Hope to se you at a meeting!!!

I'm not a member yet but here are my thoughts. Will I go to most club events? no. Will I go to many frag swaps/auctions? no.
Will I be able to get information I could not possible get at other places? no. Will I see any speakers that come in at a club hosted venue? probably not.
Do to my work schedule I'm not able to do these things even though I have wanted to. The frag swap coming up is the first time that I'll even be able to go to a club event. Will I gladly give $20 to the club to join? Of Course!
After spending countless hours on this forum, getting a few things from the members, and having recieved some great advice I'd have to say it is well worth the $20. I'd have to say this club is a very good value. Could $20 be spent more wisely? sure, maybe, probably not. I've probably saved thousands of dollars from this forum and not making some mistakes from advice I've recieved. Just my thoughts and thanks GIRS

Just a thought but I think Chris and Ed had that bamboo special ordered for your room.......

On a serious note, I've gotten so much from this club I wouldn't know where to start. I had a problem a few years ago and I got more PMs in one day from people I had never met offering to help in anyway they could. One of these people ended up being my sons godfather and a groomsman in my wedding. You can't find people this real or passionate about a hobby. I've moved tanks at 2 in the morning, taken frags to frag swaps for other guys (one through a blizzard) and I'd do it again in a heart beat, because I know if I needed a place to put my livestock in an emergency, someone(s) would step up and help out, you can't buy that kind of security. As for the 20 or 30 bucks, it's money well spent.
