I have been told to do this a few different ways, but i just want to be 100% sure I am doing it right before I do something stupid.. I have been told to boil it and let it sit, I have been told to let it soak in bleach and have been told to soak in muriatic acid.. So if anyone knows exactly please help..

I have about 100 lbs of this rock that has aiptasia, mejano, and some other type of parasite I forgot the name to and I want to kill it and put the rock in my new 110 that already has 50 lbs of LR in it without throwing the water levels out of wack.

if you just kill it and throw it in your tank you will crash it...all of that die off will still be on the rocks

what I would do is "cook" it for a while and then let it recure, etc...it'll be a long process

I would not use bleach..its not necessary to use since just drying the rock out will kill pretty much everything anyways....no use wasting bleach/dealing with a bleach water mess/getting the crap all over your hands, etc

so there are a few options
1. "cook" the rock for a while and let it die off/re cure

2. rinse it all off with a hose and scrub it with a toothbrush, etc...let it dry in the sun for a while....let it dry a little more, then put it in as dry, bare base rock and let it reseed itself with your established tank

3. I dont know how bad your aiptasia/mojano problem is but you could just manually remove them, then put them in a container with some pep shrimp and other aiptasia eating things...but then again I dont know the extent of the infestation or what facilities or extra tanks you have access to

yea its really bad, so cook/boiling it is the best way? do you have any suggestions on how I can do that, b/c it is 100 lbs and it seems like doing it on aa oven would take forever.. also I am not sure how long to boil it for and how long to let it dry... thanks for your help..

No, Latazyo said "Cook" not Cook.

It means to recure for a long time.

DO NOT boil your rock. If you do that you might as well buy some bulk lace rock from a LFS and sell your liverock to someone who wants to deal with it.

we gave our rock to lisa (saltyundergound)and i only found 1 aptasia on the rock i have 2 peperment shrimp that ate it

the third thing is hydroids

1. Powerwash the pieces of rock

2. put them in a large rubbermaid container or tank in COMPLETE darkness in saltwater with a powerhead or two running

3. Change the water completely every 2-3 weeks

4. Leave for 90 days +

The amount of sludge and crap that drops out of it will amaze you. It will kill most of everything you have except a few aptaisia will live which you will need to just control with a vinegar shot once its in your new tank

Will be like you just took it out of the ocean clean

Hope this helps. Worked for me

I put mine on the BBQ. That took care of all critters, but the little pods were hard to eat, mighty tasty though!
Good luck and do what peewee, chad and stlguy suggested!

Zach, I would be more than happy to come help you take off all of those nasties with bone cutters...but I really think you should let Lisa get the aips off...the majanos and hydroids are much less commong, and I can help you get those off afterward. There was no point in buying all of that live rock if you were just going to kill it...

yea I talked to her and shes the one that told me she wouldnt use it.. she suggested boiling it, letting it dry out and get re seeded by my other rock in the tank.. I will get a hold of her and let her do it anyway. then we can go from ther i guess... thanks for the help..
