The Insatiable FLUVAL EDGE - My first Nano Reef

I am a new member here but I started this tank in November 2010. This is my first SW tank and I am really enjoying it. The FTS below is from late september, i will post latest FTS soon. Please excuse the colors in the pictures as I am still trying to figure out how to take pictures under LED.

Equipment
Fluval Edge Tank
Nanocustoms 3.6 LED Fixture for Fluval Edge
Panorama 12 Module 3-453nm Blue/ 9-6500K White
Stock Filter AC20 with BRS carbon, GFO and filter floss
CoolWorks Ice Probe Chiller
MP10es
Rena SmartHeater Aquarium Heater, 50W
I use D-D H2Ocean Magnesium Pro PLUS Salt Mix

Livestock
Fish and Inverts
ORA Ocellaris
ORA Black Ocellaris
1 Blue Legged Hermit Crab
1 Red Legged Hermit Crab
Nassarius snail, Margarita snail, Trochus snail & dwarf cerith snails
1 Pom Pom Crab
1 Emrald crab
1 porcelain crab

The clownfish and most of the inverts except emrald crab have been in my tank for almost 10 months. I use to have a pair of peppermint shrimp and they lived for almost 5 months and then they both died on the same day.

Corals
Lavendar Mushrooms
Blue Mushrooms
GSP
Ricordeas Florida and Yuma
Tyree Toadstool and Long Polyp Toadstool
Zoanthids
Palythoas
Acanthastrea
Green nepthea
Frogspawn
Hammer
Duncan
Trumpet coral
Pink birdsnest
Green stylophora
Blastomussa
War coral
Mini Anemones
Galaxea (not a great choice for small tank like this as they have really long sweeper tentacles)

Most of the corals listed above were bought as small frags and now I have really nice colonies. The SPS growth is slow but I am fine with it. I do not dose anything in my tank and just do 30-40% weekly water changes. I had to go on a business trip for 4 months and the tank survived with just weekly water changes and feeding only the clownfish. There was no target feeding of corals during that time.

Fluval Edge is a tricky tank to work with but its a good starter tank. Due to limited space I did make use of the walls by using Frag Mags to mount my toadstool coral, GSP, Frogspawn and Hammer coral on the side and back walls. I think I am ready for an upgrade and my next tank would be an Innovative Marine Nuvo.

Wow! Well, that settles that inner-debate! I must have one at the office! :D

Well done! That looks remarkable. How/where do you put all your components (chiller, sump, reactor, etc...)? Do you have a custom stand or something?

Thanks. There is no sump. I just have HOB AC20 filter on it with carbon and GFO for chemical filteration. I have the coolworks ice probe chiller which sits on AC20. Thats it. I have kept it pretty simple.

BTW my tank is TOTM at Nano-Reef this month:). Here is the link to it TOTM Link

to add to this i also have a fluval edge that crashed about two months ago, i work at a saltwater fish store and have a full blown 75 gal reef so the weekly water changes were kinda annoying and i got tired of doing it so i was thinking about siliconing the back brace and throwing an internal skimmer in there and just letting it run that way. does anyone have any feedback that could help me out?

Beautiful!! I'm thinking of a fluval myself, but this is the best argument that they can be turned into reefs that I have seen yet!

Time to google 'em again...

Visually Fluval edge is a great tank but it has one big issue like the opening on the top. But that feature also makes it a best tank to view it from top. so if you are okay with small opening on the top then this is a great tank.

DipG your tank looks better and better, please give us some under-the-hood shots, I think I speak for everyone when I say we're all curious!
