This acan is unbelievable!!! Saw it in person and will be picking up half of the colony along w/ the "eye".

Any tips on trying to get the "eye" to produce more "eyes"?

Thanks, Labman for the photo.

sweet find. ill let you know how to produce more on the condition that im first in line for a frag lol. anyways id take out a dremel and cut that particular polyp away from the colony. mount it to a frag plug or some rubble. start feeding it heavily with meaty bits. before long it'll put of a ring of babys and you have your prize. it may produce one more like it, they may all be like it, or you may not get any. if all else failed id hack that sucker in half straight down the center and youll have two polyps to work with then.

I would target feed the frag heavily with rotifers, cyclopeze, and possibly the recipe found in Eric Borneman's book "Aquarium Corals". Depending on your exp. with fragging corals I'd be careful with the dremel. You might be better with letting nature run its course and surprise you with the polyps that grow from the frag. Don't be too hasty to hack it up.

I am going to cut it free of the mother but leave it attached to a couple. I think it would handle the stress better having a few pals still attached.

I will feed often and hope to get another. Kinda weird having just one like that among over a hundred others.

I have a similar colony, although there are more "eyes". I have had it for almost a year and haven't fragged it. All of the new growth is the striped polyps, though.

Let us know how it does.

That is sweet. It looks like you have a band of new growth that has similar coloration.

Very cool and I will let you know how it all goes. I imagine it will be months before it starts putting out noticeable babies.
