Thinking ofchanging reef to FOWLR, thoughts?

Not sure what I would like to do yet but I am wondering the benefits of a FOWLR. I really like the large angelfish for their color. I have gotten away from corals over time and am more into the colorful fish lately. I have a cleaner shrimp right now and some starfish that I would like to keep in there. Any thoughts or ideas for a FOWLR tank that I could do with my current situation?

TIA,
Josh

I used to have a reef but none of the expensive corals. I felt in love with a pair of semilarvatus butterflies and the tank became fowlr. Anyway, when ever you have angels especially the larger ones the chances are 50/50 they will nip on corals.

I've always been a fish person so switching wasn't a problem for me. The benefit is you can have more fish choices and FO can tolerate higher nitrate level. But I must admit everytime I see those beautiful reef tanks here on RC (which is very often) I wish I've a second tank. If you don't have many corals now then the switch is easy and you can come back to it or add less prone to fish nip corals in the future. fowlr tanks need to big starting but you can start with smaller reef tanks. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with flameangle88, you definatelly have more choices in fish with a fowlr.

I love fish first and foremost. The corals are nice, but they dont have personality like the fish do. My tank is a semi-fowlr, semi-reef. I do have some corals, but not a lot and nothing expensive. I like the the tank to look natural, and I like a shallow reef with sea grass and macro algae in the mix as well.

With a 150 you could do a really cool fowlr.

What fish would you suggest for a FOWLR in my 150?
I also have a brittle star, serpent star, black nobby cucumber, and a cleaner shrimp.

Current fish are a small sixline wrasse, sailfin tang, and a decent sized maroon clown.

I for sure would like to get a really colorful angel and either a blue tang or something similar as well as a henocious butterfly ( I think that is right, the one that looks similar to moorish idol).

TIA,
Josh

If your looking for a colorful angle look at these. A little tough to keep but beautiful.

I just did the same thing but I did add a GTBA for my Maroons. I'm hoping the anemone will grow to be huge and take over the tank. It does add some color and movement besides the fish.

I totally agree with this statement!
