Okay, this is a wierd question...I have been growing my own phytoplankton for several months now. I am growing 2 different types of phytoplankton. When splitting the containers this evening I noticed one of them had a ammonia odor to it. The phytoplankton looked fine. It has been growing without incident. The phytoplankton in this container is green.
I've had phyto spoil before and it really stinks...worse than skimmate...it has never had an ammonia smell to it.
Any ideas??
