This is weird.....

Had a problem with my Coralife 2X18 fixture so it's temporarily replaced with a clip light with a 26w curly pc bulb. One of the issues with the old light was overheating the tank and the fixture.

Here's a pic of the tank for reference before it was fully set up.

The wierd part is that the tank temp is consistantly a half degree cooler than room temp  . Currently the house is at 78 and the tank is 77.5. My other two nanos are consistently a degree or two warmer than the room they're in.

Maybe something very small like a vent is blowing directly on this nano? or just a current in your home you never noticed. I think though that the tank being cooler is a good thing, no? Very wierd indeed.

have you try to put a temometer outside of the tank. on teh side or on top of it. maybe this way you can see if you are having a cool air current dirrected to the tank.

It could be becasue of the volume of the water. a small tank can get cooler faster than a big one, and with a constant cool air flow the water doesn't have enough time to warm up. Also 2x18w light, IMO I don't think will eat up a tank that much? Have you test the temp on the water on different water level, even when the tank isn't that big?

I would guess that the two thermometers are not equally calibrated.

Same thermometer probe in and out of the water, then I checked again with a different thermometer.

There is an air con vent about 8' away, but the air conditioning isn't on.

BTW the only pump is a 200 gph Rio, so much for the theory Rios overheat tanks  .
