Could you measure the thickness of the glass on your 55g?
I'm going to be building a tank for the fiance and wanted to use thicker glass for cheap. I planned to use the glass from the 55g of Petco's $1 per gallon sale but came to a problem.
I called Aqueon and the sides are supposed to be 5/16" (8mm). I bought one tank with the proper thickness but that petco only had one in stock. Went to another petco but all three of their 55g were less than 1/4"!! Went to a third petco and their only 55g in stock was also less than 1/4" (approx 4.5mm).

That is some poor quality control. Their 4.5 mm is 3/16th of an inch! That's way less than acceptable for a 21" height even with their plastic center brace.
