Threading PVC with a metal female adapter?

Has anyone tried to thread the end of a piece of PVC pipe with a metal female pipe fitting? I can't seem to find sch 40 pvc nipples in gray any where!

If it fits snugly using some teflon thread, I guess it can be watertight. Is it for pressure-rated applications? What about a fitting that goes from plastics to metal? There should be something like that since a lot of old homes have metal piping and you can connect them to PVS/ABS fittings. Then again, these are larger diameter pipes that I am referring to.

This is actually to plumb into a recirculating skimmer pump requiring a 1" threaded male fitting- A sch80 nipple fits perfect but I need the inside bore of sch 40 to make the venturis I'm using....

Some LOWES stores carry grey PVC nipples... some don't. Some ACE hardware stores have them as well.

Threading one will be rather hard.... a DIE that big will cost a few pennies... and trying to use a threader on a DIY nipple is going to be very hard. You can find old school non ratcheting threaders at flea markets all the time... it may be worth a look. I have one, but don't have a 1" DIE, 1.25" os the smallest I have.

Here is a place you can call....

Machined nipples... that means the threads are high quality. a "CLOSE" nipple is one with all thread, no smooth section between the two ends. That may be what you are looking for.

I found pvc nipples using google a few months back....
