Anyone know anything about this product? Do i need to drill my tank to use this? Does it come with everything i need? How will water go from the display to the filter and back to the display? I want to use it on my 26 gallon reef tank. I cant stand the bubbles power filters make. Want something not to big and expensive and im moving and going to upgrade this tank in 1years time.

Well wet/dry filters arent meant to be good at all for reefs. I need some backing up on this since im not too sure.

Wet dry filters are more for Fish only tanks. You want to build a sump. But you will need an overflow box and return pump also.

i cant afford a sump right now and i dont have the space. Should i just stick with my emperor 280 power filter then? Can i still keep corals? with that filter

I will tell you this. If you can afford a Tidepool, you can afford a sump. That is all the tidepool really is anyway. I have one and I think the larges one holds 16gl or so. The Media trays are nice, but when it comes down to it, its nothing more than a glorified rubbermaid tub. As a matter of fact if you do a little digging you will come up w/ a few plans for Rubbermaid sumps that cost less than $50 for everything but the pump to return the water to your tank.

If you have an established tank, you will have to get an Overflow box to siphon water down to the sump and a seperate pump in your sump to return water to your display tank.

You could easily buy a 20 gl tank and modify that into a sump. Any novice can do it w/ a little thought and a little effort.

In conclusion I have to say the tidepool is a total waste of money. If I had it to do over again, I would have never bought it.

I hope this answers your questions.

Why are you using an emperor bio-wheel? Wouldnt it become a nitrate factory? You dont want sponge type filters in your tank at all unless you are willing to clean them weekly right?

Over-flow box, rubbermaid tub (if on budget, if you have some extra cash a glass or acrylic is good) silicone or weld on or other things to use to make baffles, glass or acrylic sheets depending on what you used as the sump, return pump, hoses, pvc pipe, a little creativity and you can make a sump.

He may or may not have a reef tank. If not than elevated nitrates are not that big of a deal really.

Read his first post, he said he wants to use it on his reef tank.

where can i learn how to make a sump? something that explains how it works as well as how to build one. I wanted the tidepool because i got $150 dollar gift card for petsmart.
