Time to add some coral?

Hello I'm new to the addiction and I was wondering how long till I can add some soft corals to my tank. The reason I'm asking is because my local neighborhood aquatic store owner said that I need to add corals before the algae take hold too strongly in the tank. Maybe he just wants to make a sale? Sunday we are approaching our 1 month anniversary with a variety of damsels, hermits and snails living happily. Thanks in advance.

First of all is water parameters inline ,Do you have live rock, sand etc?Is it going to be lps &sps . If it is need lots of flow , what size tank?If already have alot of algae check po3,LFS is a mooron, addcoral for algae intake lol. i would wait couple more weeks though even if everthing checks out . PATIENCE>>

LOL at LFS. I would say dont trust him. Coral have nothing to do with alge control.I would like to help bbut you leave more questions then answers.
Tank size?
Tanks age?
Equipment?
Amount of LR and LS?
FOWLR or Reef?
Lighting?
Water source?

You could add these in your profile to limit correct responses.

So agree with paveking1 on the patience!! You've still got some algae blooms to ride out, so go slow and learn to love your snails. When coralline algae starts to grow well on your rocks, that's a good indicator that it's okay to add a coral. This hobby is expensive enough without your LFS getting repeat business from your misery and dead livestock.

34 Gallon Red Sea Max
30lbs Live sand
30lbs Live Rock
Almost 1 month old
Hopefully a reef tank eventually

I know it takes patience, I just though it weird that he said to add some corals.

Still cycling.Get a test kit and test. Then whene cycle over i would *** some cuc wait 2 weeks add a fish or coral then wait 2 weeks add more CUC then repeat as needed.

Wait...you'd do WHAT to the clean up crew?!? :eek1:

currently I have 4 Damsels, 10 hermits and 10 snails for 2 weeks now and everyone seems very happy. Not sure if this tells you anything..

Honestly? It tells most of us that it's still lucky to be alive. You did a great job not listening to the LFS and adding any coral yet! Test your water params and be careful about adding shy fish down the road, as damsels can be a pain in the rear.
